Flipped classroom

Traditional teaching and learning is turned on its head in the flipped classroom with students required to familiarise themselves with new material at home, leaving class-time free for the more difficult task of understanding and applying that knowledge.

Students read lecture notes, watch short videos, and complete online quizzes or other activities in preparation for workshop-style classes where hands-on activities encourage students to work together, problem solve, discuss and debate.

In this model much of the responsibility for learning shifts to the student with the teacher becoming coach, advisor and mentor, guiding students in individual inquiry and collaborative effort.
