Transforming Learning at Curtin

Work Integrated Learning

Fieldwork will be built into all Curtin Courses by 2016 to ensure our graduates have the skills and practical experience demanded by industry.

Fieldwork education, a form of Work-Integrated Learning, is designed to provide 'real world experience' to better prepare students for professional work after graduation, and to respond to the dynamic demands of the workplace.

Fieldwork activities can include:

  • Units or courses which require a work placement or work place activities;
  • Participation in laboratories;
  • Study tours, field trips/camps;
  • Clinical practice, practicum;
  • Visits to plants, industrial premises or sites;
  • Exposures in the international, interstate, regional, isolated, rural, remote and metropolitan settings.

In some courses Fieldwork Education is a professional requirement, and some professional accreditation bodies require the student to complete a period of approved professional practice experience in their related industry.
