Faculty Learning Engagement Teams (FLET)

Teams of specialists in learning engagement have been assigned to each of our faculties. Their role is to guide academic staff in the redesign of course material using the Curtin Converged model, a combination of face-to-face active learning in a flipped classroom, technology enriched online learning, open online courses, and distributed learning.

These teams have expertise in educational design, graphic and learning media design, learning management, project management, and strategic, as well as technical, support for using technologies in teaching and learning.

They provide one-on-one and departmental consulting services, technical support, and professional development opportunities for faculty staff.

Support provided by these teams includes:  

  • Designing learner-centred experiences;
  • Establishing engaging and authentic learning experiences with opportunities for collaboration and interaction;
  • Designing meaningful assessments that work well in multiple settings – online, face-to-face and blended;
  • Developing skills required for facilitating online asynchronous and synchronous learning.

Capacity Building: Research on Teaching & Learning

  • Engage in research with academic staff on learning engagement, educational design, online learning, learning theory and pedagogical practices applied to learning environments.
  • Consult with academic staff to develop pedagogically-sound learning experiences.
  • Assist in assessing and evaluating the instructional effectiveness of course materials and resources.
  • Model and promote appropriate use of learning technologies.
  • Design customised professional learning for academic and professional staff.

Learning Media

  • Conceptualise and design a variety of resources and learning media across a selection of mediums including print, web, video and mobile devices from concept to completion. 
  • Graphic design and development of visual media. 
  • Assist and advise on emerging technologies.


  • Build staff capacity for the use of contemporary learning technologies to achieve strategic goals.
  • Assist Curtin Learning Institute to provide professional learning for faculty staff.
