Associate Professor Iain Murray

Faculty of Science and Engineering

Associate Professor Murray commenced teaching at Curtin University in 1998 and has developed successful courses in the computer engineering field. He is course coordinator for the Bachelor of Technology (CSN), Bachelor of Engineering (CSE) and double degree programs within the department. In his role as program coordinator for the school’s offshore partnerships he has increased the course offerings to include computer systems and power systems engineering courses.

Specialising in accessible learning environments and remote synchronous delivery of units, he is well placed to make significant contributions in the conversion of traditional courses to the anytime/anywhere modality that future students will come to expect. This expertise may be illustrated by the success of the Cisco Academy for the Vision Impaired (CAVI) project he established in 2002. CAVI delivers ICT education to over 150 blind and vision impaired students in over 15 countries. From this experience and leading a team of researchers, teachers and technical staff, he is currently utilising the methods and lessons learning to bring remotely accessible anytime learning to mainstream Curtin students. CAVI and his work in remote accessibility of units in the “flagship” courses, led to his being awarded a Curtin Citation for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching and a University nomination for an Office of Teaching and Learning Citation.
