Associate Professor Carmela Briguglio

Associate Professor Carmela Briguglio has a background in language teaching and applied linguistics, and a special interest in intercultural communication. Over the last 20 years she has worked at Curtin University in a number of different roles including: as Manager of the National Languages and Literacy Institute of Australia (NLLIA), as Cross-Cultural Education Coordinator, and as Manager of the CBS Communication Skills Centre. As well as her work with students, Carmela has designed and delivered substantial staff development programs in the areas of internationalisation and embedding English language development across the curriculum. She has provided leadership in these areas both locally and nationally through serving on the national executive of the Association for Academic Language and Learning (AALL). Carmela has received both individual and team prizes for learning and teaching excellence at Curtin. In 2012 Carmela was awarded a national Teaching Fellowship from the Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT) specifically to work in the area of embedding English language development into the disciplines. In the same year she also received a national citation from the OLT for 'sustained commitment and excellence in the enhancement of student and staff development in the areas of the academic literacy and internationalisation'.
